Rockin' the Live Show

I was thinking about our live shows and I came up with this awesome idea. We put a bunch of instruments on stage like my ukelele, maracas, keyboard, cowbell and other stuff and then we invite people on stage to play with us and we let them do whatever they want. It might sound like crap but it could end up sounding really cool. And we can get people on stage to dance, be crazy, clap. We should be an interactive band.

And I will definently be choreographing dance moves.

Cigarette

This is only the first part of this song. I wanted to post it and see what you thought. Its tenativly titled Cigarette.

Smoke surrounds my body
the musk of memories and the comfort you brought me
gray clouds form your shape next to mine
its citrus scent wraps me tight like when you held me close
and your smoke finds my lips like a gentle kiss

I hope its a good start to some great lyrics.

So this is kind of Decemberists-y

Ok, here is are lyrics that I came up with; it sounds very Decemberists-y but I kinda like it. the soldier parts are kind of louder and quicker than the sweetheart parts which are soft and medium tempo. I don't like that I wrote a love song, I really want to figure out how to write a good surreal song. I like how this kind of tells a story though. I dunno, tell me what you think.

He sat in the trenches and heard the bombs sound/ he knew that his body would never be found/ his sweetheart fair with auburn hair/ oh he would never see her again

she kept his photograph in a locket fastened round her neck/ she wished and hoped this war would end and they would never part again

A deafening roar in his ear signaled his demise/ a moment before his spirit ascended, an image of her in his eyes

when the knock came at the door/ she knew just what it was/ fell to her knees clutching her heart imagining her love’s demise

he watched from above and saw her sad sorrow/ a tear in his eye/ but they both knew they would meet again/ true love never denies.

Ben and I have come up with a name for Crappy Band. Welcome this: paperscissorsrock. Its a reference to an early version of a Unicorns song entitled "I Was Born (a Unicorn)" and the lyrics go like this:

We're paper, scissors, rock!
We're crackle, pop!

We've decided that the Unicorns is one of our influences in writing music. We are aspiring to become fantastic like the Unicorns. Now its time to write some music.

Get the Ball Rolling

I've decided Crappy Band needed its own space to explore what it wants to be, and so this is it. We can put name ideas, lyric ideas, pics, etc. on the blog and that way its easier to communicate while I'm here and you're in MD. So this will hopefully make things easier and get things going before I come home!
